Bloomfield In Action, Company Updates

Bloomfield Resources invests £600,000 in UNTHA shredder to drive zero-to-landfill strategy

Bloomfield has taken another major step towards its zero to landfill target by investigating £600,000 in a new UNTHA XR3000C mobile shredder at its Birmingham facility.

The high performance shredder will help process the company’s permitted 150,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste each year boosting efficiency and increasing recovery rates currently diverting 92% of nonhazardous waste away from landfill.

Bloomfield expects the new technology to push that figure up to 100%.

The XR3000C is capable of handling a wide range of material streams including commercial and industrial, municipal solid waste and bulky items. It’s built in tracks conveyor system and overband magnet allow it to separate valuable resources for recycling, such as ferrous and non ferrous metals, while residual materials are diverted to waste to energy facilities for use as alternative fuel.

Scott Smith, director at Bloomfield Resources said: We’re always looking for ways to innovate and strengthen our role in the circular economy. The XR enables us to process materials more intelligently recover greater value from our waste streams and deliver even better results that keep results that keep waste out of landfill. UNTHA’S expertise and technology has been a game changer for us.”

The shredder offers a throughput of 22-25 tonnes per hour and delivers consistent material outputs of less than 90mm fractions. With UNTHA’S eco power drive, it consumes up to 75% less energy than conventional diesel driven machinery, providing both environmental and cost saving benefits.

Gary Moore, sales director at UNTHA UK added: “Bloomfield’s commitment to zero to landfill is setting an example for the industry an example for this industry. The XR3000C is built for exactly this kind of application, where reliability, efficiency and flexibility are essential. We’re proud to partner with Bloomfield and support them on this journey.”

Looking ahead, Bloomfield has also confirmed plans to add a second UNTHA shredder to its operations in the near future.
